L\u2019artista siciliano si trasfer\u00ec nel 1954 a Roma per studiare all\u2019Accademia di Belle Arti. Qui incontra Guttuso di cui sar\u00e0 assistente dal 1966 al 1969 per la cattedra di pittura. Sono anni di lavoro intenso per Guccione, ma anche di tanti riconoscimenti internazionali. A partire dagli anni Ottanta partecipa a numerose mostre in importanti istituzioni museali internazionali. La sua figura \u00e8 strettamente legata al \u201cgruppo di Scicli\u201d, definizione coniata proprio da Guttuso nel corso di un\u2019intervista rilasciata a Il Tempo nel 1981.\r\n\r\nA seguito della sua morte avvenuta nel 2018, Sgarbi afferm\u00f2: \u201c<em>Piero Guccione was undoubtedly, and it must be said clearly and strongly, the greatest painter of the last 50 years<\/em>&quot;, Declares Sgarbi,&quot;<em>After Fontana&#039;s death, Gnoli and Burri represented the supreme synthesis of figurative and abstract painting.
